Thank you, Jono.

Thank you once again, Jono, for 'something completely different'  :)

I wonder if that old heap will ever run again?

I look forward to a follow-up.

Great fun!

Thank you, Jono. I can see why those two episodes had to be together.

I really liked the way he was happy not to make a silver Gullwing because he knew the Escort form front to back. It is that knowledge of the cars you have owned and worked on that really is the treasure of classic car ownership.

I used to think I was a bit of an 'Escort nerd' back in the day but my god that fella takes it to a whole new level!

I am still considering the petrol-powered UP! GTI as my replacement for the troublesome TeeVee.

I test-drove one in November last year and was quite impressed.

I must stress though that I am NOT in the slightest bit interested in an electric car.

Battery powered vehicles are not the answer.

Thanks, Chris - I have read and watched scores, maybe even hundreds of road tests over the past 12 months or more and the UP GTI is a clear winner with 115 PS, 200 Nm and a 0-60 time of 8.7 seconds.

So, I went out last October and road-tested one in Barnstaple. It looked great, felt very well made and went like a rocket! It really looks the part with it's wide track, 17" wheels and special interior, including a sporty sound track from it's tiny, one litre, turbocharged 3-pot.

I always thought that it would have been the answer for me and t'missus when we were together because she didn't like driving the '5. Now I'm currently on my own it still ticks many boxes above many other makes I've looked at. Sure a Ford ST, Polo or Golf GTI would be quicker and slightly better appointed, but they are very expensive and the UP GTI offers a lot of bang for your buck (Oh Dear God, did I really say that??!!!)

If the Mazda MX-5 ND had been more reliable and less prone to falling apart as age and miles accrue, I would have had another, but the little beast I have presently has spoiled long-term ownership for me.

During these difficult times I have been trying to keep busy, as per previous post, generator overhaul, seat lowering brackets etc. I've also been doing my best to tidy both garage and workshop but although I have been fairly successful, it's been a case of shifting stuff around until refuse pickups get back to some normality.

Anyway, it's a lovely day today so I elected to take my daily exercise on my drive today, that being washing the GM, due to my multiple health issues I am effectively confined to home, garage, workshop and garden. What genuinely took me by surprise was the dirty looks I received from so many people walking past my house as I took what was genuinely my daily exercise. A few that stared got a little disconcerted as I gave them one of my hard stares but honestly, I was at least 20 feet away from the footpath and as such I assume practicing much safer social distancing/self isolation practices than they were.

Obviously I have no intention of going out in the car at this time but surely washing any of our cars on our own property is not a crime, something I would assume the half dozen Police vehicles and their uniformed occupants agreed with. To make matters worse I know some of these people by sight and they are out and about three and four times a day.
