Put your cd into windows media player- it may well come up as default when it goes into your computer. At the top is a box called ‘rip’. It will take a few secods, but it will change your music into MP3. Then just drag the file from ‘music’ to your memory stick.
Try it then, if it works, add some more in the same way.

Unless you use Apple......

I must be a bit thick - I understood not one single word of that, Ali !!

Thank you for trying though

I'm sure if you desire, one of us could take you through step by step the process of importing music to your 'computer', and then copying it to a suitable memory stick in a format that the ND can read and thus play.

Ha! Many thanks, Steve - I appreciate that. I'm not really that "thick" though, as I inferred above, having been reasonably well educated at an old-fashioned boys grammar school, and having had various skilled occupations over the years - it's just that I have never been particularly interested in over-hyped, mass-hysterical, wallet-draining, mostly unreliable, 'leccy-techy 'stuff, preferring old-fashioned engineering. Just a personal thing

My wife, on the other hand, seems to cope with it very well. I mean...she even has a smart phone!!    :giggle:

I can see where you are coming from Kev, for me with music nothing beats getting a 'hard copy' in your sticky mitt, be it a CD or vinyl LP....(I have over 1000 cds in my collection!)

It took me a bit to get my head around it too.....and rather than now carry a case full of Cds in the car I have a device smaller than a mobile phone that has about half my music collection on!

And on our pothole riddled roads there is no CD to 'Jump' if you hit one!

So I see the advantages.....

I only really started using the i-pod with the ND as the previous NC's didn't support the charging without buying an additional accessory to make it work.

It'll become second nature if you want it to!

Hmm...looks like I will have to capitulate after all then  :bored:  (Caroline said she'd give me a memory stick to start me off).

This is more my kind of thing (I made a similar one when I was a boy)

You just can't beat a good ol' solid piece of Meccano engineering!  ;)

[PS: Ignore the word LEGO in that link - whoever posted it clearly doesn't know the difference between Meccano and Lego and needs to be beaten soundly, then thrashed !!!!!!  ]

Yes, Pat! That's the first thing I tried!

I then called in to see a lad I know at PC World in Barnstaple and he tried a cleaning disc...but it made no difference. He finally declared the unit "f*****d!"

(He did continually and vociferously emote about the car though!  :))

It will be something like the lens servo mechanism that's knackered. These parts often are fairly cheap and easy to source, once of course you know the manufacturer and part no. Myself I've repaired Xbox 360s for the lads when they had issues with DVD drive.

As advised above you need a young one of our species , stand out side your door holding your old Nokia phone and look as if you are using it . At about this time they pour out of Schools terrifying local shopkeepers and towns folk who love their front gardens , nicking crisps and anything of value located at the front of the shop , the shop keeper then appears like the one in Mr Benn pleased to have survived another day !!  As for the gardens they are laid to waste by their trampling Hooves on a Monday to Friday  without fail .this is when you grab one saying that your phone will not work ! This will cause at least one to stop , hopefully one interested in cars and join the Yoof in the car point at the CD Player and slowly draw a line across your Throat , he or she will get the idea !! You will have a working CD and Street Cred as it is called .

A well known technical term, it stands for Failed Under Calibration; Known Electrical Defect. :P
