This UK Limited Edition number 131/250 was already in great condition when I acquired it back in October 2013 as a new (safer) toy to replace my classic Jap bike hobby which started in 20089 following retirement.

Only 4 previous owners and full history - garaged all it's life and still wearing original paint .
Typo re retirement year - was of course 2009 !! Since acquisition have applied copious amounts of waxoyle to cavities (after inspecting via endoscopic camera) and replaced cambelt / waterpump / inlet pipe etc plus full fluids / filters . Also fitted chassis bracing both ends plus a strut brace - just prior to acquisition it had a set of V Max progressive coilovers fitted which I then adjusted to suit local driving conditions (humps). Then fitted a full decat stainless system (a benefit of the age plus it sounds superb) . All additions are reversible to ensure a quick return to originality to preserve the rarity of the car as I believe Mk1's , especially the earlier limited edition models will become even more desirable to future generations - we owe it to the designers who took a huge gamble at the time.

Wow, I've always loved your car but I must say the polished cam-cover looks wonderful.
Just completed chassis leg inspection inc. undertray removal and associated shearing of bolts etc ! Legs in great shape (the car) and waxoyled innside and out - then fitted brand new undertray and new fixings (copa-slipped of course to aid future removal). Whilst in waxoyle mode injected some more into floor rails and all areas where there was a 'receptive orifice' !

Also recently completed a full history file of all previous owners with comments from most of them confirming that PKV has lead a very cosseted existence over past 23 years which explains current condition and original paintwork ............. cop attached.

HISTORY FILE – 1991 1.6 litre MAZDA MX5 Mk1 BRG Limited Edition Registration Number J131PKV

PKV is a UK Mk1 first registered on 1 August 1991 and supplied by Mazda dealers Ron Forster Cars Ltd in Rugby Warwickshire and the car has spent all of its life in the Midlands until October 2013 when at the tender age of 22 it moved down to Cornwall having been purchased by owner number 5, Jim Hendry, the creator of this history file.
Regrettably no formal service history was ever completed on PKV during it’s first 22 years – however there are a few invoices in handbook and the MOT history coupled with the remarkable condition of the car prove beyond doubt that it has enjoyed a cosseted existence during this period and the recorded mileage of 61000 is almost certainly genuine. Additionally there is anicdotal evidence within comments provided from previous owners that car has been serviced on a regular basis.
Details of the four previous owners including any history they were able to recollect is listed below.

Owner 1 was Len Birchall of 43 Palmcourt Avenue, Hall Green, Birmingham, B28 OBA who took ownership of PKV on 1 August 1991 from Mazda Main Dealer as outlined in Para. 1. From discussions with owner 3 who had a broad knowledge of car’s history prior to acquiring it Len did not use car much during his 8 years of ownership and further comments from Owner 2 confims that when he purchased car from Len it had done a quote ‘ridiculously low mileage’ < 4000 ! Sadly during compiling this file it was discovered that Len sadly passed away in 2004 and hence the letter sent to him seeking info. on the car will never be answered.

Owner 2 was John Christopher Dixon , a solicitor of The Lodge, Meeks Well Lane, Symonds Yat, Ross -on- Wye who acquired PKV on 13 November 1999. He knew the car well and bought it from Len Birchall who was a client. John has relplied to an info. request letter. He has confirmed that although all of his servicing paperwork has probably been misplaced , the car was serviced in accordance with manufacturers schedule every 6000 miles . This equates to around twice yearly as his annual mileage during his 3 years of ownership equated to c. 12000 comprising 130 mile round trips from his home in Wales to his office in Birmingham. As with owner 3 (and 1) PKV was always garaged when not in use. Shortly before selling it on to Ron Gwilliams there is an invoice on file dated March 2002 confirming a full service including additional work comprising cam belt replacement and clutch slave cylinder replacement (40534 miles).

Owner 3 was Ron Gwilliams of Brierly Hill, West Midlands who acquired PKV in September 2002 and owned it for just over 10 years. Writer has spoken with Ron who is a car salesman employed with Westway Nissan , Stourbridge. He confirms that over his 10 year ownership it was always garaged and only covered around 2000 miles per year. It was MOT’d and serviced annually in accordance with manufacturer schedule by technicians at Westway Stourbridge, but regrettably he never got service book stamped as it had never been done previously by second owner. He also advises that a new soft top was professionally fitted around May 2011.

Owner 4 was Howard Barton of Bewdley, West Midlands , a work colleague of Ron who acquired PKV in May 2012 , having constantly badgered Ron over the years to sell car to him. Writer has also spoken with Howard who confirms his only reason for parting with car after only 15 months was fact that having bought it, he quickly realised that rear wheel drive two seaters were not really to his taste being a self confessed Golf GTI fan. However during his short period of ownership PKV was fully serviced and was treated to a professionally fitted pair of new rear sill panels and a full set of V Max progressive Coilovers.

Howard decided to sell PKV in August 2013 and it was purchased by his ex boss, Julian Haywood of Dunley Car Sales who advertised it and eventually resold it on to Owner 5, Jim Hendry who picked PKV up on Saturday 25 October 2013 and drove it back 243 miles to it’s new home in Cornwall. The collective mileages detailed previously add up to mileage recorded on purchase by Owner 5 (see below).

Owner 5 , ‘myself’ , will now create a detailed service history file from November 2013 onwards which together with above information should provide an ongoing overall history for the future.
