I'm offering this 1997 Eunos Roadster (MX-5 NA) in the original colour Sparkle Green. It is powered by a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated inline-four engine with the automatic gearbox (3 speed gearbox with torque converter plus overdrive). The car spent its first ten years in Tokyo, and was imported into the UK in 2007 by its second owner. It was then sold on to a collector who drove it very little and mainly kept it stored in a garage, from whom I bought it.
I've owned it since October 2021 and I have put in quite a bit of work since purchasing it: the cam belt (at 65,000), water pump, spark plugs and leads, all oils and filters (including gearbox and diff) have been changed. A brand new battery has also been installed in May 2022. I have also changed the driver-side window motor as it had lost some of its power with age. For completeness, the car has gone through full servicing recently (including change of wiper blades and other bits and pieces). I also added a brand new Bluetooth-enabled stereo. Air-con works perfectly and there no known faults. The car is in perfect mechanical condition.
Approximately 65,000 kilometres (although MOT refers to miles) - those who are familiar with the Eunos Roadster will be aware that the odometer counts in km rather than miles. That's an average of only 2,600km per year, which matches with the distance I've driven it in the last 9 months (around 2,000km).
Aside from the incredibly low mileage and the fact that it is a Japanese import, the special thing about this car in my view is that it has zero rust in the underbody and perfect sills and rear arches. There is some rust in the interior of the trunk, but otherwise I believe the body is excellent condition for the year.
MOT’d until May 2023 with no advisories.
I only use the car for weekend drives out of London, and it has continued sleeping in a covered garage since I bought it. This is quite a reluctant sale given the rarity of automatic MX5s, but unfortunately I will be moving abroad in September and I have no one to watch after it.
I have a full service history for my ownership, and some history from the previous owners (which is to be expected given the age and imported nature of the car).
My initial asking price is £4,000 which in my view reflects the excellent condition and uniqueness of the car, but very happy to hear sensible offers.
The car is located in NW9, London.
