Hi, considering a shorter plate , any pioneers out there with photos of theirs? Plinth comes off, holes filled etc I know...stick on with strong pads? MOT...?

Cheers

Yours eternally perfecting and dreaming up ways to stress myself out about such trivial things

Not really sure what you're looking for here Graham, front or rear or both?

I have a square plate up front with the original plate, I don't really get off on personalised plates other than those of old cars I have owned and sadly the DVLA doesn't allow this, I'd rather put the cash into improving the car wheels up.

The plate I have up front required the plinth to be modded i.e. cut to size for a standard square plate, this I have done on my last two Mk3.5s and it is IMHO an improvement over stock and makes the car stand out a little bit more.

Hope this might help.

Just a personal thing but I've never really been happy with fitting number plates within the area of the radiator air intake - likewise having any kind of decorative / honeycombed mesh grille there other than what the manufacturer fits. Such obstructions can cut down air flow by a fair percentage, which is quite obvious really but Keith Tanner puts some loose figures to it in his Miata book

Just as an aside D, the square plate doesn't impinge on the air flow, it's a relatively small letterbox on the NC FL1 that allows air to the rads in the bottom few inches only, the grille is solid above this line, my grille was covered with a Zunsport mesh item, quality gear BTW, due to damage to the original front grille within the actual letterbox that allows air in. Before I fitted it I removed all of the factory 'letterbox' honeycomb to maximise air flow, as you know I have to feed this air to the engine cooling rad and the supercharger heat exchanger.

It has been trialed in 36-38 degree C ambient air temps and the highest coolant temp seen was 106 degrees C, recorded via my Scangauge, well within the operating linits for the engine.

Thanks guys, it was just a front plate on my NC1, but not a square one. Standard plates are 520mm wide, I've been looking at legal plates at 405mm wide which will fit my soon to be 6 digit plate (I've 5 at present but that will go on my sons car in sept if he passes his test!). It was just a question to see anyone has done this and what it looks like, either attached to a shorter plinth or fixing the acrylic plate directly with strong pads. Cheers. Don't trust him with Photoshop. Your car will come back full of pineapples or with a Christmas tree shoved up the exhaust.

Because I'm still pulling needles from 2 years ago. This year was much more dignified, but pineapples were lurking with intent.

Ah yes! Pineapples, some scores to settle with th'Easter bunny I think. When is Easter this year by the way? It's usually been and gone before I realise.
