This doesn't make happy reading at all. It certainly makes on wonder whether I should have parted with my mk3.
Perusing Mx5s for sale there are a heck of a lot of mk4s on there. Now I know why.

Good morning Jenny,

I am sorry to be such a bringer of bad tidings regarding the ND Mk4 - all based on fact and personal experience - but it's better to know the truth and be prepared for the inevitable problems. The Mk4 should have been so good, after all it does drive well and look fabulous, but is sadly built down to a cost and a low weight.

I sincerely hope you enjoy yours whilst it's behaving itself and I also hope you stay with us here on mx5life.com :)

Checked my rear bushes whilst I had it in the sir for new pads. 38k miles. Tyre lever on a block of wood pivot levering up and down under the tyre. Couldn't find any movement. Clunky noise now disappeared. Perhaps the full droop of the damper got rid of some air in the BC racing dampers?

There is every chance of that, Kev. Whether it be with a mk4 or something else. ;) this does look like a very fun place to be.
Who is this comedian called Dewi, he appears to be a joker?

Dewi is very much part of the heart, soul and core of this forum and community Jenny, never take what he may say with a pinch of salt. Kev does indeed have a well documented thing about toes.

Pay Dewi no heed about him not being able to scratch his nose though, he can still wiggle his ears and roll around ;)

You mean he can scratch his nose wiggling his ears, is he an elf?

I simply cannot, as hard as I try, understand the "toes" reference!

Would somebody please enlighten me?

Took my ND for service four today, (50,000 mile) and came away with a couple of 'advisories'....

First on the list was corroding inner front and rear brake discs....Pads are on 5mm front and 6mm rear, advised to' replace discs when pads need replacing'.

.....no surprise really, given the car has done only 3,500 miles since I bought it 14 months ago.

Second was......(wait for it)....'Very slight' play in the rear hubs!! (no knocking noises or anything...Yet!)...

I mentioned to the service receptionist that speaking amongst other ND owners that the 'Hubs', were becoming something of an issue!

Her response was they will probably be okay for the next six months.....

I assured her that should repairs become the case on a car with the mileage mine has (18,773) that Mazda will be footing the bill!!.....She appeared to have had this conversation before!!

So....We'll see how it goes in the next 6/12 months, 🍿 .... like Kev, I'll add that the ND is a fantastic piece of kit, (yes, the best Mx yet!) but it may well be 'make or break' for me given this news......
Mines come up as slight wear and mot advisory after 8500 miles, garaged car, not driven in winter, rain or to the cars full potential. After Mazda gave me an initial two fingers salute they have now offered a goodwill that will leave me £400 out of pocket. I have returned the two finger salute to that offer and if it’s not sorted at their cost I will be going to BBC’S Rip off Britain to get the some really crap TV airtime.

There are two known repair option (apologies if they’re mentioned further up);

Andy Leslie - can be found through ND Owners Group on Facebook sells replacement spherical bearings and a tool to enable replacement, apparently can be done in an hour or so if you know what you’re doing.

Paul Roddison - in Sheffield offers a drive in polybush replacement and alignment service, the polybush is not the same as the spherical bearing nevertheless those that have had it done report satisfaction.

Cars manufactured after February 2022 have a redesigned bearing (it’s the seals failing).

Don‘t let that stop you raising awareness publicly at all it should be dealt with better by Mazda.

It looks like they are now going to cover my costs for the repair, whether they are going to do both sides I don’t know yet. Strange that after I send an email to RIP off Britain and copy them in things change. Might be worth anyone else going down that line. First Mail the Uk ceo, then when you have officially be dumped take it to BBC programme.

If it's any consolation Mick it's about three years since I posted that, my car is still ok as far as I can tell, and the bushes never get a mention at service or m.o.t time....It's now got 24,000 on the clock, only thing that's changed is I paid the car off (so expect to foot the bill at some point as it's 7 years old and outside the goodwill period)....But in IanH's post he mentions Roddisons and I'd probably favour them should I get to the 'need to' stage.

It’s ridiculous that cars with such low mileage are having these problems. How they can’t acknowledge there is a problem and replace the parts with upgraded ones is beyond belief. The goodwill is a joke as you shouldn’t have to pay for defective parts full stop. If I have to do mine I’ll be going non Mazda parts.
