Quick question...

What's the basic differences, visually between the Mk2 and the Mk2.5?

In a nutshell whilst I'm going into my bookmarks, yeah the front lights for the Mk2 are a 2 cluster, and on the Mk2.5 they changed to a 3 cluster arrangement.
The dash dials on the Mk2.5 (what they call the NB facelift) are white changed form black on the Mk2 and a few other bits and pieces...one sec...

Workshop manual to the rescue :D

"The construction and operation of the body system of the face-lifted MX-5 (NB) model is essentially carried over from that of the current MX-5 (NB) model, except for the following features.
Improved Safety.
The seat belts are equipped with load limiter and pre-tensioner systems.
A double locking system has been added to power door lock system.
Improved Convenience. A keyless entry system has been adopted.
An auto open function has been adopted for the driver-side power window system.
The console has been enlarged to provide more space utilization.
A removable ashtray has been adopted.
Inproved Comfort.
A seat warmer system has been adopted.
Improved Design.
Quad headlights have been adopted.
The instrument cluster design has been changed.
Improved Marketability.
Front fog lights have been added.
A 2-Din size audio unit has been adopted. It provides various, extendable combinations (CD player/CD changer/cassette deck/MD player).
Modification To Match Market Regulations.
A MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) has been added to the instrument cluster or OBD model in compliance with the OBD regulation."

BenC, The spec varies depending on wether it`s a standard 2.5 or special edition. The most obvious change ie the `Shark nose ` bumper with fog lights/space for them.

I think the Mark 2.5 also had new slightly more powerful engines compared to the Mark 2 - VVT engines

Yes vvt on 1.8 is 146bhp mk2.5 and mk 2 had no vvt but had 140bhp
Which explains why my Mark 2 1.8 is so much slower than the Mark 2.5s

In fact the mk2's should be quicker as they are lighter then the mk2.5
How much is the difference in weight?

Does anyone have a link to the official performance figures?

I`m told the MK3 is lighter than both the MK2 and the 2.5, is this correct `cos it looks bigger.
I`m interested in the front fog lights if someone could send me a link please? Even second hand Iv`e been quoted £80/pair plus the switch. :(

I am not sure that the Mark 3 is actually lighter than the Mark 2 / 2.5 but I think Mazda tried to keep the weight as low as possible so there is probably not much in it.

My 2.0 Mark 3 is 158 bhp as compared to 146 bhp for the 1.8 Mark 2.5 and when I first got the Mark 3 it seemed noticeably quicker than the Mark 2.5 that it replaced, both being Sport models. I am not sure how the two compare for the official performance figures.
