After purchasing the 5 a month ago it has been sitting in my garage while I've been selling my previous car. Well today that has gone so now I'm taxed, insured and ready to rock.
Managed a short ride in it this evening but as I had Mrs Cobra with me wasn't able to have too much fun however it was really nice to be back behind the wheel of this playfull little puppy it just seem so resonsive and connected to the road. I know these aren't the most powerfull car on the road (although I do have plans for that) but I was actually surprised on a couple of occasions how quick it picks up without so much drama. I've been driving Mrs Cobra's SLK over the past couple of weeks and while that is more powerful it does seem as though it gets bogged down by weight or maybe I'm just more isolated.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to my trip to work tomorrow, particularly as shool's out and the road shouldn't be quite so busy.

Well that didn't last long!

After enjoying a few rides to to/from work last week in the 5 and looking forward to some proper driving at the weekend I went for a cycle ride last Friday morning, fell of and smashed my pelvis. So I'm now laid up in hospital on tracktion for the next 5 weeks and don't know how long after that it will be until I can drive. I'll be SORNing the car again now so for one month's tax I managed 3 days driving covering about 50 miles. Bugger! I guess worse things happen.

Oh no!!! 🙆‍♂️

I'm so sorry to read this, GDC. Blimey, 5 weeks in traction! 😧

I can only wish you a full recovery, as quickly as medically possible. Stay stoic and please keep us up to date with progress 👍

Thanks for the good wishes all. I’m trying to keep upbeat about it as there’s no benefit to treating the situation any other way, another week or 2 in and I may feel different but it seems best to start off as high as possible, just hope I can get comfortable in the car once I am mobile.

Indeed, it's the only way to treat these things, don't waste good energy on running through the what ifs etc just knuckle down and focus on the recovery. As you may know I've had multiple surgeries over the years for joint replacements due to damage caused by inflammatory & osteo arthritis and pseudo gout, last ones were both shoulders over the course of 2019 (two surgeries) and it's looking like my left elbow will be next. Best advice is to dig deep. let the recovery process do it's thing and work your backside off when it comes to the physio.

Take care and of course keep us all updated.

Cheers Steve, that’s good advice and exactly the way I’m looking at it. I’ve got some physio equipment attached to my bed right now and I’m trying to limit the atrophy in areas unaffected by the injury, it won’t be perfect but my aim is to be in as good shape as I can be once the leg is released. One benefit of the traction setup I have is that it doesn’t isolate the knee or ankle joints in that leg so I can keep them moving even if I can’t give them any load.
I had my leg in plaster due to a tib/fib break many years ago and the ankle was frozen once I got the plaster off, took a lot of time and work to get it back anything like normal even though it wasn’t directly affected by the breaks.
