On my 2012 mk 2.5 I had the dreaded intermittent abs warning coming on more often than not. Dreaded mostly because of the cost of the diagnosed front left sensor is about £200. Fortunately I've had success with a brand new aftermarket sensor sourced on eBay for £80. Not cheap but if it works ( and it does!) it makes fixing an annoying fault just financially manageable. I had hit a kerb with the front left wheel recently so I also have a probable reason for the failure in addition to age of the car... Fingers crossed no more sensors go down in the future!
