The idea of a continental road trip in an MX5 always appeals, so have you ever been on a continental driving holiday in your MX5 or have you got one planned?

Please feel free to post up any photos you have of your '5 on the continent :)

Our first trip 'abroad' (in a car) was to England last year where we split our time between the Lake District and North Yorkshire. The weather was brilliant the whole time (in June) and we had the pleasure of driving through some of Englands most beautiful countryside.

This year, we're heading down to Rosslare to catch the overnight ferry to Cherbourg and invading Normandy in France. We're basing ourselves here ( http://www.maisonlaudiere.com/ ) and will be hoping to visit more than the D Day area which I've already done several times on the bike. Again, we've decided to go in June as we've got the whole month off and means we can be a bit flexible with our time. We'll also probably fit in a trip to Scotland as well before the end of our holidays as that is another of my favourite places to go to.

Great photos and loving the plans, Dave:thumbsup:
It's been a long time since i've been to France and the 2ndWW history is incredible but, as you say, there is more to the area than D-Day.
Calvados for one :D
I have taken my MX5 to the continent on 3 occasions. Firstly I went to Brittany for a long weekend with the South Wales OC in 2004, then to Bruges in 2005 for a long weekend with the South Wales OC and finally to Brittany for a week in 2008 with the SWMOC (an "unofficial trip") :)

I was rather nervous about driving my MX5 abroad as I had never driven on the right before, but it was fine as long as you remember which way to go round roundabouts etc - and overtaking was a bit of a challenge too

I would love to go to Bruges in the MX5 again - who knows maybe later this year
or Ieper :)
Not continental, but Lucy and I did have a weeks golfing hols in County Donegal a couple of years back. No photies unfortunately due to a/ Beer
b/ Golf followed by
c/ More beer

Was good fun, even if the courses were brutal!!!

DPC - did you drive your '5 through snow? Austria sounds a fair way to go - how many miles did you do on the trip?
Some fine mountain passes in Austria, also there's a Red Bull Museum at Salzburg airport called Hangar7. Has Aircraft and a restauarant and looks amazing!!
I've previous done Alps, Dolomites and Pyrenees by motorbike so know the area pretty well.
Planning to do a 10-day tour to Monaco, Dolomites and Alps next year. PM me if you fancy tagging along.

Sounds good :) - but I don't have a motorbike!

Lol, nor will I by then.
We've promised ourselves a continental road tour and an MX5 seems like the perfect tool for some of the roads I've got planned. I'll dig out some of my pics to wet the appetite.

The last 3 are more suitable to an off road bike but I think hey give you a flavor.. I know I have some of the Dolomites too, very different than the Alps, look like hells gates.. beautiful though.

Cool stuff, B'man!!
Last year we did a 2 week road trip with another couple in their MKII taking in France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and then back through France. The drive down the side of Lake Garda with all the tunnels was fantastic. The Stelvio pass was unfortunately closed but we found some stunning and fun mountain roads. Stopped off in Maranello where I drove a 430 Spider and a Gallardo around the streets, that was terrific.

And all of this without the use of a boot rack.

A few weeks ago a gorup of 6 couples spent 9 days in France, amking our way down to the Pyrenees and stopping over in LeMans on the way back where we saw the 787B.

If you get the itch then scratch it, touring in Europe is fantastic, even short weekends, of which I have organised two for the OC can be masses of fun.

Riding a bike through Europe is fantastic. I've done plenty of miles doing just that, but this years trip in the 5 was just as enjoyable.

I reckon we should organise a MX5Life group trip to the continent for 2012 :)

Maybe we could do the Le Mans Classic?

Do they want a processions of '5s behind the wedding car :)

Jot - sounds like you need a job with more holidays to do all that lot :frantic:
