I thought I'd started a thread on this chap but can't find it.

He's a motoring journalist with a liking for older cars. His take on the 'green car' is not to buy a new small turboed hatch but to fettle something destined for the scrap yard and keep it going. He has a small fleet of old bangers.

His other interests include 4x4s, electric vehicles and facial hair.

He's all of my schoolteachers rolled into one, Jono - except for our PE teacher who was a sadistic git

Testing an unbranded jump pack.

Not seen one of these devices before but it looks like a scaled up version of one of those external batteries for mobile 'phones.

Does anyone here have or use one of these type of packs and do they work ? I lug a spare full size battery and jump leads around when necessary.

Must admit I've always been a bit cynical about stuff like this, Nick but it seems to work ok on the petrol engines.

As an aside - if they signed him up for Top Gear, I'd watch it :)

I was bought a set that plugs into the "cigarette lighter" sockets in late December.
Not had the opportunity to use it as yet.

I sure as hell ain't flattening my battery to find if works or not though :nah:

I would be terrified of incinerating the wiring loom feeding starting power through the lighter socket. I used to use the lighter sockets for charging the battery before I fitted CeTek connectors to make it easy to connect a charger/conditioner . Unfortunately I keep one car in a remote lock-up with no power so occasionally I have to deal with a flat battery there.

Watching that video Jono, his facial fungus looks remarkably familiar from a previous post!
Yes, he is the L J K Setright lookalike that I mentioned before, but I can't remember which of Jono's posts he was in.

Thank you, Jono, I could watch his little clips for hours - he is confident, unpretentious and has enough knowledge to be entertaining and informative, all with an eccentric presentation that I find very appealing.

EDIT: I used to like LJK Setright for the same reasons.

Excellent! I'd really like to go out for a few drinks with this fella, I bet he's a right laugh when he's had a few :giggle:
