I thought I'd started a thread on this chap but can't find it.

He's a motoring journalist with a liking for older cars. His take on the 'green car' is not to buy a new small turboed hatch but to fettle something destined for the scrap yard and keep it going. He has a small fleet of old bangers.

His other interests include 4x4s, electric vehicles and facial hair.

I'm sorry to say, Chris, that I truly enjoyed that 2CV clip from HubNut 😌

He really knows his Deux Chevaux doesn't he?

I know you hate the little contraptions and I can almost understand why, but I would have one in a heartbeat if I had space to keep it. Sadly, my current dwelling only has a two car drive and one of the spaces is occupied by our Volunteer Bureau Car Service vehicle, which I keep here at home.

One day, when I no longer require a large, powerful car, I might sell the 'Octagun' and buy a fully restored 'tin snail' and just have fun...

Thank you for bringing HubNut back, Chris 😊

I used to like the Maestro back in the day. My mate had a lovely 2.0 EFI in white with red seat belts and it went (and handled) really well (y)

No Probs Kev....Hubnut hasn't done much road testing recently as he's been more busy 'tinkering' and sadly he's a bit painful to watch! 🤢
So I won't subject anybody to that! 🤣
I too quite liked the MG Maestro back in the day....I had a work colleague that had a Montego, and he always brought it to me to service rather than the garage, and it wasn't the worst thing I ever drove....

Absolutely loved my EFI, so underated due to the lower in the range models. Bonus was that I picked my then 3 year old example for relative buttons and got 5 years relatively trouble free motoring out of it.
115bhp.138lb/ft torque in standard form (yes, mine was indeed modded a bit) but weighed the same as a *** packet so really could get a shift on - mine was definitely in Golf 16v of the day territory and suspension sorted so with minimal mods it was up there with the best of the era. 5 year ownership and other than service items, one offside gearbox oil seal, changed it as it was weeping. Front hubs were prone to wear where the front wheel bearing was seated, engineered a solution to that and it was then completely trouble free.
The thing is during HN's test drive he was always short shifting and yes, these things did have grunt in the mid range but they weren't averse to reving to the red line and in truth gave a whole lot more at the top end.

As you rightly say Chris HN has been evermore painful to watch of late. His videos with his new partner are particularly painful as she constantly interupts him mid stream and then waffles on about unrelated nonsense. I'm sure she's a nice woman but she has completely put me off watching HN and , for the record, I follow a few women/girl classic car channels on FB and they are brilliant so definitely not a hint of misogyny here, she's just an annoying person - period.

Yes Kev... that's how they marketed them, I was never huge fan as I preferred the sharper handling Escort, but that one looks tidy and sounds well!...(y)
