We've introduced this forum as a means of mx5life members to write MX-5 specific guides to help fellow members maintain, modify or repair their car.

To kick it off, and also to say thanks for submitting your guide, we'll send you a £5 Halfords voucher for every guide published!

So, what kind of guides can be submitted (with PHOTOS!!)? The list is as long as it is wide, encompassing things such as:

1) Oil change
2) Brake pad change
3) Waterpump replacement
4) Rustproof your Mk1
5) De-Tango the headlights
6) Replace your horn

etc etc etc!

If you've already written a guide on here, just post the link to it, and you'll receive a retrospective £5 Halfords voucher!

This isn't so much as a how to as a handy tip/bodge that saves some money and some welding.

What to do when the underside weld holding the nut that the battery clip bolt attaches to shears off because the nut has rusted onto the bolt on a MK2/2.5.

1. Remove everything in the boot.
2. Disconnect the battery
3. Cover the battery with something like a carpet offcut: in a moment there will be some potentially dangerous sparks flying.
4. With a small angle grinder or the cutting disc on a Dremel, grind the top of the bolt off and allow it to fall through.
5. Get underneath the car and retrieve the remains of the nut and bolt (the nut should be rusted on to the bolt) from the hole in the chassis member on the underside.
6. Get a plasterboard T bolt (spring bolt) a large washer to hold the bracket and a smaller washer to go between the bolt and the large washer.
7. Unscrew the T piece from the bolt and put the small washer, then the large washer onto the bolt and replace the T piece.
8. Squeeze the T piece together and put through the battery clips then down into the chassis hole.
9. Tighten the screw up on the bolt.
