My NA, VMX589, was the best car I have had in so many ways. It was beautiful and a delight to drive, it was cheap to buy and service and it was so well balanced that the occasional four-wheel drift was a pleasure.

The best thing about my beloved car is that it is being restored as we speak by a very competent and capable young man (well, 40-ish is young to me).

The one that started it for me.....

This, was the last photo I took before taking it to 'Arnold Sharks' to p'ex for the Nevada (like many cars I wish I'd kept it....NOW)

I bought my NA in 1996 after looking to buy a car to drive top down. I had four criteria for this car, It must have a roof that went down, manual gear box, get near 30 MP US Gallon, and cost less than $10,000.

I found this car, when on a road trip with a fellow petrol head. We looked it over, decided that with slightly more than 50,000 miles and not rust or corrosion, that the value was there. Catch number one - I had forgotten my check book. The price of the car was within the limits of my credit card, so I offered that. The dealer did not want to pay the fee to the credit card company, so he made the following offer. He would sign the title to me, making me the legal owner, let me take the car, then I would send him a check when I got home. This was an amazing level of trust given to someone that had just walked into his store, completely unknown to him. I sent him the check along with a note thanking him for the trust. The rest is history. Car Vehicle Automotive parking light Vehicle registration plate Land vehicle

Ooooh look! An NA dedicated page :) My first NA back in 2005ish on a road trip in France. Lovely car this - fresh Jap import with around 25k miles on it. I was a fool to sell it.

I've come full circle since via a Fiesta Zetec S, an MX5 1.8 NC ragtop, a 2.0 litre MX5 Sportblack, a BMWZ4 and now back to an NA - another fresh Jap import

I don't actually think there are that many NAs on Life now are there?

Blimey Dennis, you must have an honest face :) Funny thing, but you just don't get that level of service or trust when you have a Scouse accent .......... and brick in your pocket.

Did I read that correctly Martin? The occasional four wheel drift. :Frantic:

The famous Tess relaxing at home, I've had to stop him drinking wine though - he gets a bit punchy when he's had a glass or two of the red.

The NA is one of those cars that in 10- 20 years time everyone who had one will say, "I wish I still had that" But the remark will probably be more based on the fact that there will only be a handful of nice ones left, so the market will demand higher prices. The TRUE aficionado though will miss it because of how f***ing brilliant it was at being a sportscar.

Guess I better include the BRG machine ...well documented in the Car Diary and hopefully going to be well looked after by new owner as it appears to have been sold after 12 months with the Dealer who bought it from me.

I got my NA because I'd tried a mk2 and enjoyed it but I really loved the pop headlight difference on a mk1.
I saw mine on a Facebook page, colour and interior were just what I fancied so I bought it, sight unseen, until I collected it and I've never looked back. Well I do obviously when I'm driving but I have no regrets as far as buying it.
It's not perfect but I love it.

Interesting little read that .... not sure about the orange wheels but it would be boring if we were all the same !! Strangely enough Deepcar is where we went to get the new Boxerdog , 'The Hoodlum' ... and he looks orange in certain light !! :)
