Hi.

My name is Bruno Mauro and I bought at about 2 months a 2021 MX-5 ND, which came with the 74.00.200 EU N firmware.
Thanks to ASH8 and the instructions made available by private message, I upgraded to 74.00.324 EU N without any kind of problem.

Thanks for sharing information, it helps immensely to know the car better.

For ND MX-5 the Current as we know it Generation 6 Mazda Connect (Above) has finally been changed to the Generation 7 from the 2024 NE MX-5 Model Year onwards to the Widescreen (type/look).. and No you can't change Firmware from Gen 6 to Gen 7 :).

As ND Owners know the Mazda Connect (round red knob home screen) has been around a long time since the 2014 BM Mazda 3 and has had many bugs and issues over the years like most brand Infotainment systems, FINALLY though the Latest and LAST Firmware Update is great, all of the bugs are gone and works much faster then versions before it.
Plus with this version number 74.00.324A you can also install the wired Carplay-AndroidAuto Conversion Kit (which is the new Aux Hub or Box and a pair of new thick USB Cables) that plugs in between the new AUX HUB and CMU (silver unit under the touchscreen inside dash).

With this new 74.00.324A Firmware Update the system works much faster and smoother, but you do not have to
do the CP/AA Conversion if you do not want to, this 74.00.324A is the Final Update for all Gen 6 cars and always remains CP/AA ready, but again you must buy and install parts to Activate it, there is no other way.
DO not install CarPlayTM-AndroidAuto Parts until you have updated Firmware FIRST. If you install new parts first AND THEN 74.00.324A Firmware CarPlayTM-AndroidAuto will Never Work, you must Reverse your parts installation 100%.

Anyway I strongly recommend you update your Mazda (MZD) Connect Firmware to the bug free update.
We can no longer freely add any download links in open car forums, however I can privately supply you this update via the forums 'Message' system, just click on my AVATAR and see the message box in bottom right corner, click on this to start a Conversation with me.

So in this message I need to know some detail about what Version you are currently using, for NDs in 99% of cases you ONLY Need to do this ONE Update, but we must check for your cars well being before you run update.

I ONLY Issue Genuine Mazda Firmware and ONLY go by the Mazda Dealer Instructions (.Pdf).
Please I do not do AIO Tweaks at all as it is way too old and has too many bugs, sorry please do not ask about it as I cannot help you, my recommendation is if you have Tweaks is to now install this latest 74.00.324A and it will automatically remove car back to stock.

So, there is Basically 3 different Regions or Country firmware types to upgrade, either EU N (Europe or UK), NA N USA, Canada and Mexico) and 4A N (ADR) Australia, NZ, ME, South Africa and parts of Asia.
I cannot obtain any specific Japan or JP M Firmware at all.

What you must do is sent me a pic of your screen with the Details in your car today, this is what you do, see Mazda method below......

For MAZDA CONNECT.
For Private PC Usage Only:

To Update MAZDA (MZD) CONNECT I Need to know what FULL Version Number is used in your car today.

1. Go to touchscreen red 'SETTINGS',
2. Side Scroll to Top Far Right gold Folder 'SYSTEM',
Scroll Down to 'ABOUT'
3. Touch 'Version Information'.

FULL Version Numbers and or Region Letters are revealed.
Next ONLY send me a Picture of this Version Information SCREEN.

I now ONLY issue out the correct Genuine Firmware when you supply above in a Picture, it's for your CMU's Updating Safety. PLUS it's to Confirm your car Does NOT have Any Mismatch of your 2 x Connect Files.

Also tell me (confirm) in what country is your Mazda NOW driven in as some in this Forum use VPNs that hides your real user country.

So send me the picture in your message to me and I will return with all the info and link you need to update your Mazda Connect, depending on where your version is now this update fixes a minimum of 50 different bugs and issues from outdated 70.00.100 and even more if your car is older than 70.

ASH8 - I keep getting a message that I can't reply again to our private conversation! Not sure what to do so I'm sending another message this way... Hope you notice it! Apologies

Yes, the cable is a bit thin and doesn't support fast charging of my OnePlus 11 phone. Also it disconnects easily. But it's short, which helps avoid clutter. Are you suggesting that I should get a Mazda cable or a OnePlus cable when you say OEM?

Having said that, will my updated system support one of the wireless AA dongles that your .PDF mentions and that I've just noticed out there? It would be very helpful to have no cable at all plugged into my phone. The .PDF states: "BUT You still MUST install original New Wired System for 'USB Dongle' to work. " Is my AUX hub the "new" ie right one?

One other point. I have formatted (FAT32) an 8GB USB stick. There is a file named "System Volume Information" which cannot be deleted. It is a normally hidden system file. (I always unhide system files). Can I proceed - there are no other files apart from that and your update file?

I'll feed back my impressions once I've done the update... (y)

This is another successful firmware upgrade and Factory CarPlay retrofit story. The firmware update provided here worked like a charm, and subsequent USB cables and Hub worked great together! A minimal MagSafe mount from Course Motorsports and a 1ft USB-A to USB-C cable made the CarPlay and Phone Mount install look super-clean and professional. No cable clutter to be found. Thanks to ASH8 for all the info to do this!! The GF is happy!

Many thanks to ASH8. Upgrading my 2019 RF 2.0 Auto from 70...367 to 74...324 went perfectly. Hardware was already up to date. Took under an hour. No huge differences - possibly sound was a bit better - clearer? Change log suggests previous version was pretty much ok already, but always good to have the latest!

Now thinking of upgrading speakers and have just ordered wireless CarPlay hub for wireless AA & Type-C USB.

Thanks again!

my cmu About screen says "OS Version is 70.00.367 NA N Music Database Version is 00.09.000 Fail-Safe Version is 70.00.367"

I have manually updated this cmu since version 5x.xx.xxx as well as cmu's in CX-5s (i know what i'm doing).

update: update to 74.00.324A NA N was successful. Music Database 00.12.003

It is interesting that Android Auto has moved the Taskbar from the left to bottom with this firmware update. I'm on the fence whether that is better. Mostly I prefer left, but bottom does have a few benefits. With taskbar on the bottom you lose the reporting button in Google Maps navigation (but this is somewhat mitigated by them finally adding verbal reports: "Ok, Google, report stalled vehicle").

What I do appreciate is that it appears the safety delay is somewhat less sensitive to trigger--but is still horribly unsafe (annoys the driver, causes them to get out the phone) and obviously shouldn't apply when a passenger is manipulating Infotainment.

thanks!

I've since upgraded my CarPlay Aux hub to the Android Wireless/Type-C USB model. Required removal of a number of trim panels which seemed daunting initially but went smoothly by following instructions (some great YouTubes on the subject as well as mx5manual.com Service Manual available online). Wireless device from AliBaba arrived in about a week - very efficient.

A real joy to use - connects automatically without cable connection. Fast charging with cable is a great improvement too.

Worth noting that AndroidAuto is now built-in to Android. It still requires updates like other apps but has also subtly changed - Hey Google message suggestions keep popping up! Not sure if that is an AA change or a wireless feature...

Thanks again to ASH8 for suggesting the CarPlay upgrade!
