The Bright Yellow Car Convoy

So you may remember the post on here earlier this year about the pensioner in Bibury who got his car scratched and the windows smashed to encourage him to "move" it from the scenic landscape. As car lovers, we all felt his pain and I felt I should represent us there! I have to say the locals were amazingly welcoming. It was a lovely experience. There were 103 other cars on the convoy, as well as some yellow bikes too! As always I got hopelessly carried away with the photos and took 100s, which are all in the yellow car convoy facebook group if anyone wants to take a look. I will paste a few direct to here though.

It was certainly much harder to find my car in the car park than usual......

How did the villagers take the yellow invasion Ali? :Giggle:
Brilliant, I was only reading about this last night. More power to the yellows :)

Good on the old fella, he's talking about getting a vivid green to replace the written of Corsa.

It is a sad state of affairs though especially as he seems well liked in his home village. Shame on th he local plod and I bet they do as well, for not tracing those responsible for this genuinely Shi tty and cowardly act.

May their genitals go gangerous and fall off as retribution.

Yes he has indeed bought a grey Corsa.
The locals were absolutely brilliant. I know some newspapers have written otherwise, but they were brilliant. In the past few weeks they have been popping up on the planning page on Faceache and wishing us well.
The convoy itself took nearly an hour and a half and was quite slow in places. I'm not good at slow speeds with my dodgy leg but the pain was all worth it for such a fabulous experience.
As we got to the outskirts of the village- everyone was outside waving and cheering. Lots of them were wearing yellow. There was a man dressed as a banana and lots of cyclists in yellow jerseys ringing cow bells, just like Tour de France. The tourists faces were a picture, especially the Japanese ones. The whole scene was full of people pointing camera of all shapes and sizes and cheering and shouting "well done!" It was incredible. A special mention must go to the lady on the mobility scooter who was out waving away from the main crowd.
As usual the despicable vandal who was making a point for everyone else in his village had got it terribly wrong. We really felt the yellow car love from the people of Bibury.
The man we had gone to see, Mr Maddox was so happy, it was all worth while!

I don't think the vandal was ever caught, but it was the "tourists" complaining about the car being in their photos, so quite possibly it was an outsider who was the perpetrator of the damage

What a fantastic show of support for Mr Maddox and glorious yellow cars everywhere.
I don't understand why people are so pathetically intolerant about one small but brightly coloured car and that one(or two) individual(s) get their own way, by fair means or foul.
It makes me cross!
Rant over.

Me too, I read the first complaint a couple of years back and with the damage the second time, I was so annoyed I was going to go there myself on a solo protest. Then I came across the Facebook group (huge thank you to whoever pointed me in that direction!) and it was so much more powerful going en masse.

I've just had a look at the yellow car convoy face ache page and seen your wonderful car, amongst the other beauties.
What a show of strength.
It must have felt great being part of a peaceful, leisurely, chance to meet other like minded people, protest.

I have to say that experience would suggest that the vandalism is likely to have been from within and chances are from a grockle with a second home in the village. I have been given the third degree from a Landan based grockles about the relatively quiet exhaust on the stormy blue when visiting my Brother in S.Devon. Genuinely unpleasant in his tone so he was, the car was at the time running a standard system with an ILM. Back box so not loud by any standard. He commented consistently about hearing it at around 11am every morning!

Thankfully some of the genuine locals put him in his place. Said individual would likely ended up in Derriford if I's rolled up in the GM. Small minds from those buying up properly so the local kids can't.

The guy in this case occupied his property three weeks a year. Property value circa £1.5 m for a Three bed detached property, what chance the locals on generaly low wages, part time, self employed or zero hour contracts.

Great system!

it totally was. I often drive round in convoys (although we cant call then that!) of 5-12 cars, but to be out with 100 with the full blessing of the local council and police was superb. The sense of comradery was brilliant and no interbrand snobbiness either. :)

A great story, and nice to see the support for Mr Maddox, no thanks to the simpleton vandalising his car!

As much as I like yellow....I've had a 'Daytona yellow' Mk1 Escort and Reliant Robin in yellow.

Sadly, (looking at Alis pics) the chap/ess with the 'C***ster' manage to make it more hideous though by painting the wheels yellow!!! :frantic:
