Water ingress, passenger footwell

Not sure if this is the correct place for this, if not please move accordingly.

After some rain overnight I've noticed some water on the floor of the passenger footwell. Thought it may have come through the window seal but seems too far forward for that.
Is this a typica problem? If so where is the water likely to be getting in?

Grommets ?
Cheers Pat, I'll look into that ASAP

Yes, that looks like exactly the same symptom as mine, job for the weekend.
Not sure I'd use silicon though on metal panel, it can cause rust itself

If you use FERNOX LS-X plumbers silicon it will dry in wet conditions -- in fact it dries better when water is applied and makes a stronger bond.

I used it on my NC2 some years ago with good results.

Also handy around the home 🙂

Thanks for the recommendation Kev, I have some RTV sealant in the garage which should be up to the job but that's worth keeping in mind.

Did the job earlier today, that fitting was loose and the 'gasket' underneath was not in good condition. Also looked like someone had attempeted a repair previously by slappign something on the plastic fitting. Looks like Evostick or possibly Araldite. I did get some photo's which I'll post tomorrow, unfortunately forgot to take one when finished!

I tend to change the grommets every three years (ish) really as a service item. Had them leak on my first NC after two years so just decided then to treat them as a service item. Another Mazda quirk.

Sounds like a good idea, there's very little keeping water out of the car from a hole in a horizontal surface. Hopefully my mastic will keep it our for a wile yet.
Was tempted to do the drivers side to but that would require removing the wipers and possibly other stuff so left that for now as there's no evidence of an issue.

Do you change the plastic insert and the grommet or just the gromet?
If so do you have a part number or name for the insert?

I found it quite difficult to remove the insert to the extent that it actually deformed the (tin foil thick) metal around the aperture, this may have been because the back side of it had something applied to it. The tangs on the plastic were not in good shape.
