What could go here?

While looking at fitting a head unit I noticed what I had previously thought was just part of the dashboard plastic or possibly a blanking plate sitting between the 12v socket and the heated seat controls, closer examination shows it actually has some wiring attached at the rear, presumably this is for an option which I don't have:

Any body know what it is or would be on a car with this option?
Just wondering if I could make some use of it.

GD...
On the wife's Cx-3 it has 2 USB ports next to the 12v socket....Cant remember if my Graphite had a USB in the standard head unit?

Funnily enough that was what I was looking at putting behind the blanking plate but then found there is some wiring going to it, can't be USB as it does not go to the head unit, the USB it did have was packaged away in the glovebox DIY stylee.
I'm assuming your Graphite would have had the Panasonic/Sanyo double DIN-ish unit with Tomtom?

Yes, it was exactly the same unit GD...but been a few years since and couldn't remember...
My ND has USBs in a similar spot but for some reason Mazda moved the 12v socket underneath the dash on the passenger side....Good move NOT! 🤬

Had a look through the manual yesterday evening, found one graphic which showed this area as having an "Aux-In" socket. Presumably this is not used on my car as it has the iPod and USB cabling to the glove box but they use a "one size fits all" loom hence the wiring.
