Just popped up on web-site as a pass....No advisories! :D
Collected the ND at 2.30....and spent a little while talking bikes to my mate at the garage.
As I got the new certificate and key he said... "That handles bloody well doesn't it", he said with a wry smile.... 'Yes' I replied, :D
Now the M.O.T station is only a half mile further on the road but, the ND was quite warm ticking away merrily...he'd obviously had a little 'test run' in it.
Fair play....I used to do the same with his bikes a good few years back....(y)

As the weather was nice decided to get stuck into the Vitara and investigate a squeal on the front brakes.... ( Yes.. the new discs and pads I fitted about 18 months ago).
Thought it might just be a case of cleaning up and a bit of anti-seize and jobs a 'good un'....Hmmm.
All was well on the passenger side, just a quick clean and re fit....disc pads with much life left, goody!!...:giggle:
Sadly.... the drivers side has a fluid weep around the piston boot....this had got onto the inside pad backing and blistered all the paint.
Worse still on the inside of the brake disc about 10mm of the outer disc all the way round has a large ridge (now whether this is due to a manufacturing fault and a hard spot in the disc I'm not sure).....but the disc pad has a deep groove worn in the top, almost half the depth of what's left on the pad!
I've never seen anything like that in all my years working on cars.....
Either way, it's another pair of discs and pads.....and possibly some new calipers!.....Bugger, thankfully the M.OT isn't due till December!

That sounds unusual, Chris -- what a real pain!
Strange isn't it, that years ago, we hardly ever renewed discs...they went on and on and on, throughout several pad changes! Nowadays, they seem to be made of gruyére cheese!!

Yes Kev, I know at one time discs seemed to last forever and didn't really require changing until about 50,000....Think I'll be lucky if these have done 5,000.
I looked back as some discs are advertised as 20,000 mile or 2 year warranty... but I fitted mine on 20 /6/20!
Sadly not the Mintex brand I prefer to use either, but at the time they had to be better than the worn out ones it arrived with!

Finally got all the brake parts ordered for the Vitara....Decided to go down the route of a new calipers, (Ooooh the expense!😄 ) but getting ones with bleed screws has proved a trial!
Had to order separately in the end.........The ones in the calipers look 'crusty' so am not tempting fate!
Just down to people not knowing what they are selling and the photos don't show enough detail.
Oh well....Best go have a lie down now!...🥵

Yup, it's due to the removal of asbestos from friction materials rather than disc material change.

Thursday evening there was a BBQ at the localish Mazda dealer, with a “show and shine” competition.

I was somewhat surprised but well chuffed when the dealership staff awarded first place to my 25AE :)

A photo of the prize winning car, not the best photo, as it was rather dark by the time I left

Yesterday....with the help of the grandson got the new brakes fitted to the Vitara, all looks very shiny and work a treat1
Even managed to free the crusty bleed screws on the old calipers and have new ones to fit (as yes, you gessed the new calipers turned up with screws fitted! 🤭)....Just need two seal kits and will have a couple of spares...should the need arise...

Today, the football team won 2-0, so not a bad weekend all told....(y)
