Great to see our pensioners keeping themselves usefully occupied.... ;)
Cheers Nick!....🤣🤣

Good fortune didn't last sadly....Just went into the 'Man-cave' switched on the recently installed new lights and 'Bang!!'....😭...

One of the LED's gave up the ghost (the grey connector should be attached to the circuit board!!)....
Just been onto Screwfix and they are going to replace it.... (y)

Just been thinking about replacing the traditional strip lights with LEDs in both garage & workshop. A bit of capital outlay to save on revenue outlay i.e. costs a bloody fortune to go and work for a day in either.

I'd say do it Steve (despite mine blowing)....Fittings are light weight, start instantly and give a much brighter light at lower Wattages, perfect for garages/workshops.
Didn't realise how bright until I put the florescent back up temporarily till I get the replacement....The two 5ft Robus fittings I got cost £77.98 and would have got a recommendation if it hadn't been for the failure....:(

Today, I painted my brake calipers. I considered predictable red, but decided on something a little different.
I never seem to go down a simple path . Why do one colour, when you can do a base colour, then splashed black, then splashed silver, then logo sticker, then topcoat :ROFLMAO:

A pass....No advisories!...
Did worry the m.o.t tester might pick up on a little sidewall damage on the N/S Rear tyre after the puncture repair but no, nothing....
Unlike a well known fast-fit centre that wanted Anne to buy a new tyre when she went to sort the puncture!

Over the last few weeks I've noticed the Vitara tick-over when warm had become a bit unsteady, and warm starts were taking a bit of cranking over...
So after a natter with my mate at the garage he suggested I might give the air flow sensor a clean with some contact cleaner....and maybe have a shufty at the throttle body while I was 'in there'.
Perhaps it's me but I was sceptical....
So being a nice warm day and armed with said WD40 contact cleaner and some Brake cleaner for the throttle body I set to....
Air flow meter was just two screws but looked very clean, didn't hold out much hope, but cleaned it anyway.
Delving a bit deeper and after removing the rubber elbow (two Jubilee clips) that attached to the airbox I discovered that the throttle body was very dirty (no doubt aided by some type of emission pipework running direct into the throttle body housing from the engine top).... so with a cleaning cloth sprayed with brake cleaner I was amazed at the muck in there!!

Long story short, car is starting much better and tick-over rock steady at just under 900rpm.

As they say in Yorksheer....'Well 'al go to foot on our stairs!' 🤭

Put some 'new boots' on the rear of the Vitara as the m.o.t is booked for tomorrow (Due early December)....
Switched the wheels front to back a few months back as I knew they were on the way out.....
Got them down to 2mm left so got my moneys worth! 😄
After a bit of 'shopping' got two Avons fitted by ATS for £211, so happy enough at that.

Same from me, Chris (y)
Cheers both...Should be ok, but it had an advisory for a slight leak on the exhaust last year, although I couldn't see it...
Gonna treat it to a service too at same time, but am not doing it!...😄

Haha! I don't blame you, Chris!

After over half-a-century of 'doing' cars I have finally hung up my spanners!

At nearly 70 years-old now and with indifferent health and vastly diminishing enthusiasm, I let my local 'indy' do the grubby, knuckle-skinning, joint creaking stuff, so that I can just enjoy the driving 😊

I might even let our local Eastern European lads clean it as well!

Well, there's no point in making it to 70 if one can't get a bit lazy in one's dotage - especially now that our caring, sharing, bunch of tory reprobates have promised us old'uns a 10.1% raise in our State Pensions 😱 Gasp!!! 😯 What will I do with all that spare cash.

Maybe I could get myself a new tin mug!! 🤯🥶

Good on ya Kev👍...don't blame you mate, I'm at a stage where I'll 'still do a bit' but hoping the Grandson will soon 'step up' and then I'll donate my tools to him!

Oh dear....It's a failure!!!!!!!!!! 😢 ....

Oddly the exhaust leak is still an advisory!.....But two of the ends on the rear brake pipes are corroded, and my mate hasn't any in stock, and as he's up to his eyeballs in work at the moment (and for the rest of the week) I'll take the Vitara back on Monday!
But as the car is 14 years old now I think that's a result!...(y)

That's not a bad result for an 14 year-old Vitara, Chris. When I was a nominated tester (in a far away past life) I have seen Suzuki Jimnys at less than 10 years old with the complete rear floor section rusted out!
Couple of new brake pipes, a bit of swearing and a quick bleed (brake fluid, not blood!!!) and your on your way again! (y) 😄
