It may sound stupid but have you tried opening and closing the boot lid?

Dont forget that if all else fails the glovebox (should) contain the kit (hooks and string) to raise the roof manually.

 

It's not stupid. It was the first thing the manual recommended. I checked all the requirements (boot, brake, neutral) but to no avail.

..... every cloud and all that. So sorry to hear about your roof failure but such a coincidence after Dewi's recent thread.

 

It is obvious you are weakening in your resolve to hang onto the NC. By the time the week is out I feel sure this roof incident will have convinced you to go back to manual operation with the ND.

That's the reasoning I employ when trying to justify blowing lots of cash on a car.

Jono is right, in Australia the soft top hasn't been available for three years.

I'm sure it is a minor electrical issue.

Even if its not, I am not daunted by the soft top issue; I know the warranty has a year to run! :devil:

 

Seems strange if you've heard no tell tale noises.

Hopefully just a fuse or dodgy relay ?

 

Sorry to hear about your roof Martin, given the sudden way in which it failed, it sounds to me like a simple electrical problem. As Nick says it's more than likely just a failed relay or even a blown fuse. I'm sure it'll be an easy repair for the dealership. Keep us posted.

Just a thought, but can you not take it over to the dealers while it's dry and leave it with them under cover until they can get to it on Monday?

Dave, even when I bought my Sport Black here in the UK, no a soft version of any Sport Based NC was available, Mazda just didn't make one after about 2010 and the facelift (Mk3.5) was introduced, I didn't particularly want a an RC but there was no choice.

 

I'd defininitely agree that this is likely to be a fuse, relay or position sensor acting up, the fact that you have had no odd noises would certainly indicate that this is not a failure as such.

A side note, I have the smart roof module fitted and it occassionaly throws a little wobbly where it won't respond, an switch off and on again usually sorts it out, the other thing that seems to confuse it occasionally is if the windows are fully down, not sure how relevant this is to your situation Martin but the smart module seems to 'like' the ability to drop the windows that couple of inches before it goes into the full roof operation mode.

Are your windows working ok? During some recent work I had the window switch unplugged and the roof would not operate, my thinking is that if you had a window fuse failure then the roof would not operate.

Here's hoping it's a simple, (and warranty) fix, we know what Mazda are like for warranty dodging; if at all possible, absolve all responsibility, they may even say it's because you've been using the roof!!

From how you describe it sounds like a total power failure or some sensor not doing as it should hope your not parted for too long!....

 

Perhaps you can "do a Jono" and get the dealer to make you an offer you cannot refuse to exchange your dodgy roofed NC for a brand new ND with foolproof manual lid ?

I bought my Sports tech RC brand new in January 2012 and I had the option of the rag top version at that time. On reflection I wish I had gone for the rag top now. Too many creaks and rattles from mine and yes I carried out the tighetning of the the roof latch fix.

I managed to quieten the previous RC top down but it needed another turn on a second attempt, the gap was still within the permitted figures which I think are 3-8mm

Perhaps the clutch needs a little adjustment, Mazda do seem to set the bite at or near the full release position.
